Community Fire Prevention Initiative

February 4, 2024 Activities 0

BCFI believes that the best way to handle a problem is to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Last February 2, 2024, a month before Fire Prevention Month, BCFI distributed 60 fire extinguishers to the residents of the Staging Area and Block 9 in Brgy. 649, Port Area (Baseco), Manila, through the proceeds of one of our programs, the Smokey Tours. SFO1 Al Jeph Lorenzo of San Lazaro Fire Station led the distribution and taught the residents about fire prevention and safety. At least 120 heads of households attended the program, signed a covenant, and took responsibility for correctly using fire extinguishers and ensuring their community’s safety.

A mother was taught how to switch off an LPG tank while it was on fire.

Why do we do this? Actually, this is not the first time BCFI has distributed fire extinguishers in Baseco Compound. In 2022, during a Baseco Tour, a guest witnessed a fire in the area where the tour was being conducted. After the tour, the guest kindly donated 60 fire extinguishers to the community to help them in their fire-fighting efforts. Since then, the fire extinguishers have been instrumental in preventing some fires in the community. At least seven units have been refilled, showing that the community members are taking responsibility seriously and are committed to keeping their homes and surroundings safe.

BCFI, through Smokey Tours, is committed to helping create safer communities on the other side of Manila.
