Our #BeBlessed Stories: Trusting God’s Plan

INSPIRING CHANGE, EMPOWERING WITH HOPE.

Trusting God’s Plan

Danica Layag has been the HR administrator of Bless the Children Foundation, Inc. (BCFI) since 2018. Aside from showing dedication in her human resources role, she is also the project head of the Be Blessed Marketplace and serves as the supervisor for individuals who volunteer in BCFI. Danica’s story tells about the importance of casting doubts aside, taking chances, and the realization that God’s plan makes itself known at the right time.

This interview details Danica’s #BeBlessed Story. A short slice of inspiration to wrap up the rather rainy weekday.

Tell us about yourself.

I am Danica Layag, 24 yrs old, and the HR Administrator of Bless the Children Foundation since 2018. When I was in college, I never imagines myself working for an NGO. I have always dreamt of working in a corporate office, in one of those tall buildings, probably in Makati which is one of the largest cities in the Philippines. However, my cousin who was a sponsored child in a site in Samar introduced me to Bless the Children Foundation. My initial response when she mentioned the work location was “this is definitely not for me”. Despite all my doubts and what ifs, I grabbed the opportunity.

I never thought that a job can feel like home. It took a while but I can finally say that this package might look different from what I have imagined but this is the gift I am sure I received from God.

Can you tell us about your goals and dreams in life?

My goal revolves around making my family’s life better. Being able to provide for my family gives me purpose and inspires me to do more.

What would you like to achieve this year?

This 2021, my goal is to finally get the house I have been waiting for since last year.

I am happy to share that I was able to reserve a unit for my family after years of working. It is not as big or as grand as the one I have dreamed of but I am proud because it is something I can call ‘ours’.

What is the hardest challenge you have encountered this past year?

2020 was the hardest year of my life. It made me question my worth, my abilities, and myself. I admit that I was on the edge of finding my way out, but I guess what is meant for you will always stay. God will give you a thousand reasons to stay. Challenges made my path messy and blurry, however, I am glad that I was able to find my way home. I learned the importance of seeing the good from where I am now.

What is your #BLESSED story with BCFI?

First, I would like to thank BCFI for saving my youngest brother’s life. He suffered from measles last 2019. He was only 6 months old and we thought it was impossible for him to survive because he didn’t receive MMR vaccine, an infant’s protection from measles. He has a weak immunity given his age and the fact that he was only breastfed for 2 months. It was Ma’am Eunice’s quick response when I asked for help that saved his life. I also believe that the prayers offered by my co-workers helped him recover.

I would also like to thank BCFI for teaching me how to be grateful of what I overcame and for what I have become.

Let us share the hope around! What is your message for everyone who will be reading this?

Life may not be as pleasing as you want it to be, but always remember that you are saving lives by just living.

I don’t know how to properly put this to words. Over the years, I gradually realized the significance of the work I do as part of the organization. It has been an opportunity to witness individual stories unfold before us. I have seen enough evidence that we are able to change lives and are helping create dreams.

We are all #blessed and we can also be a #blessing to others.
